Many members, especially those at distant locations, use the credit union checking as a means of making withdrawals from their regular savings account. They maintain an the credit union account even though their regular checking account may be with another institution.

When a savings withdrawal is needed, members write a check on the credit union. When the check is received, even though there may be no balance in the checking account, funds are automatically transferred from regular savings to cover the check. The checking account returns to a zero balance. Federal Reserve Regulations permit up to six such automatic transfers per month.
