> > Debit Card
A debit card is simply a "plastic check" that you can use most anytime as an alternative to writing a paper check. It has the added feature of being a "cash card" for withdrawals at ATMs. Every debit card transaction comes directly from your Four Points Federal Credit Union checking account , whether used at a store or at an ATM.
Also from Savings: your Four Points Debit Card has the added advantage of also being able to draw funds from your savings account provided you have overdraft protection tied to your savings account. When you use your card at an ATM, the system looks for money available both in checking and savings. It is important that you have overdraft protection from savings in order to have access to your savings for debit card purchases at merchants. Federal Reserve regulations limit such transfers from savings to checking to six per month. If you intend to have several transactions that will draw from savings, it's helpful to move enough money from savings to cover all of your transactions with a single transfer. You can do this through WebAccess (home banking) or by calling the credit union. Real Time Transactions: Your Debit Card transactions are in Real Time. That simply means that every transaction is immediately reflected in your available balance. This includes deposits made at the credit union as well as your purchases and cash withdrawals. This real time deposit feature is especially valuable to members who have payroll and other automatic deposits coming to their Four Points account. For example, if a deposit is received and posted at the credit union at 10:00 a.m., that deposit will immediately appear in your available balance. The same immediate availability occurs in your checking balance when you transfer money from savings either onlin or by calling the credit union.
Point of Sale - It's Important: the credit union's debit card is intended primarily for Point of Sale purchases. Generally, any merchant that accepts a VISA credit card can also accept your VISA Debit Card. Your use of the card at merchants is what makes it affordable for the credit union to offer a debit card. Because of the importance of Point of Sale purchases, there is a minimum number of such purchases required each month to avoid a card fee. In any month that a cardholder does not make at least four Point of Sale purchases, a fee of $1.50 will be assessed for that month. Your Card PIN: you will be assigned a Personal Identification Number (PIN) with your debit card. You wil need to use your PIN to take cash advances at an ATM. A PIN will also be needed any time that you select "debit" for a Point-of-Sale transaction. Or, you can select "credit" and sign for the transaction. It wil still come from your checking account. Use at ATMs:
ATM Network: Four Points particpates in a national network of credit union ATMs that are surcharge-free. This feature is a great convenience if you have network ATMs near you. The network is limited in rural areas and small towns and availability varies by state. The ATM will be surcharge-free only if it bears the Co-Op Network emblem.
Transaction Limits: At Merchants: Other than your available balance in checking, along with overdraft proection from either savings or a loan account, there are no dollar limits on debit card purchases at merchants. The Real Time nature of the program always maintains current balance information. At ATMs: The amount available for cash withdrawals at ATMs has a daily limits of $300 regardless of the balances in your accounts. ATM Useage Fee: Four Points Federal Credit Union pays a fee for each ATM transaction you make. We will absorb the first two each month. After that, the credit union will charge your account $1.00 for each additional ATM transaction. Application: If you would like to apply for a debit card online, click on the link below.
